Opinions vary when it comes to the subject of companion planting in a vegetable garden. Some folks swear on and some swear at it. I am in the swearing on it crowd. Companion planting is not new but it has seen a resurgence with all the backyard gardens.
The main reason folks practice companion planting is for insect control. The theory is that by planting plants that attract the good bugs it will help keep the bad bugs under control. The good news is that it works. Some plants like Marigolds will repel some bugs, but both good and bad are bugs are effected. Another reason to companion plant is that some plants just work well with each other. The bad news is that water requirements can be sustainably different from plant to plant so adjust the watering accordingly. Click here to read more on companion gardening.
