Gardens

squash plantsNow is the time to plant those tomatoes, peppers, okra, cucumbers and squash (if you are feeling lucky).  I have it on good authority that the cold weather is over.

I did a short presentation at JC Penny during the first part of March and the topic of squash and vine bores came up.  For man of us, they decimated our squash crop last spring.  One of the ladies at JC Penny’s shared with me of  how she grew squash in a tomato type cage to stop the vine bores.  I have never heard or read of this before.  By forcing the leaves to grow up, you are allowing plenty of sunshine to reach the stems.  Apparently the bores don’t care for this, and they will move on to shadier pastures.  If growing squash is on your list this year, I would give it a go.
