Peach Trees in North Texas

By Wells Brothers
Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

peachtreeNot all peach trees are created equal. But they all need proper care and maintenance if they are going to produce to their potential. This is one endeavor where the fruits of your labor are sweet. Picking the right variety and proper planting in the right spot is imperative. Fertilizers vary depending on region and maturity of the tree, so do some investigating before you buy.

The one certainty is that bugs and fungus love peaches.  Prevent these pests and fungus from ruining your crop with regular spraying with insecticide and fungicide.  Follow the recommended schedule with the proper product.

The most common synthetic insecticide is Malathion. Fruit Tree Spray is another that is a mix of Captan (fungicide) and Malathion.

The two all-natural alternative insecticides are Spinosad and Bacillus Thuringiensis (Bt). Of all the different fungicides out there, Captan, liquid copper and sulfur have been the go to products for years. Application rate and frequency vary so as always read and follow the label directions.
